Reeves presided over a small attendance and said that the meeting was the outcome of the impetus given to fishing by the visit of the International Anglers to Henley on September 4th.

Henley Standard, September 8th, 1905
All sorts of conditions of men invaded Henley on Monday morning. They came by special train from Paddington to Henley to take part in the great angling competition promoted by the Silver Trout Angling Society, London, and open to the world. They marched out of Henley Station headed by the Henley Town Band playing The Marseillaise out of compliment to the French anglers in the large party — there were 259 anglers.
